How to dispose of your Christmas Tree
Remove all bags, tree stands, decorations and lights from trees before dropping them off.
How to dispose of Ash
Do not dispose of hot ashes in plastic, paper, or cardboard. Leave ashes in a container for several days to cool completely. Once the ashes have cooled completely, you may bring them to our collection station or landfill.
Ashes can be used in gardening applications; they are nutrients to compost, mix into soil around calcium-loving plants or sprinkled around garden beds to keep away pests like slugs and ants.

Historical Background
The fee for solid waste services was set by Torrance County, to provide for a solid waste collection system. When originated, the small landfills here and there throughout the county were health hazards in violation of the laws and regulations of the State of New Mexico. An ordinance was passed which provided that all residential property owners would pay a waste management fee, the proceeds of which would establish and operate a waste collection and disposal system that was safe and in compliance with the law. This is not a user fee; it is a fee that all county property owners pay if there are residences on their property. These funds maintain the neighborhood collection system which is available to you throughout the year.
To provide our customers with waste collection, recycling and disposal services that protect, preserve and improve our environment and the quality of life in our community.
Integrate solid waste management by covering all sources and all aspects, covering generation, segregation, transfer, sorting, recovery and disposal in an integrated manner, with an emphasis on maximizing resources to use efficiently. To focus on reduction in material that we landfill, re-use material that hasn’t reached its life limit, and recycle to create new material.
